Information
- The Doom 3 Alpha (version 0.02) from the E3 2002 was leaked on 10/31 and is downloadable via file sharing:

- The demo features three playable levels and an editor.
- ALL-IMPORTANT: You have to either install the Detonator driver in the 41.09 version to be able for launching the alpha or use the Riva Tuner and this instruction:
1. Install Riva Tuner..
2. Start Riva Tuner, on The Main menu go to driver settings -> Customize -> Open GL..
3. Open GL -> Compatibility..
4. Choose NV40 Emulation In the dropdown menu for open gl hardware acceleration mode..
5. Play Doom 3
6. Look at the bitmaps if confused.... - Obviously the demo is adjusting itself to the hardware environment, i.e. it looks much better on a 2 GHz computer compared to a 1 GHz machine. Therefore screenshots of various quality are existing – so nothing to worry about screenshot fakes!
- The alpha runs with the default settings 'only' at 640×480 pixels! Who would like to check it out at 800×600 or even at 1024×768 opens the DoomConfig.cfg, looks for seta r_mode "3" and replaces the "3" with a "4" for 800×600 pixels or by a "6" for 1024×768 pixels. Furthermore one can use the highquality.cfg, simply launch the alpha with "doom.exe +exec highquality.cfg".
- The sequence, as shown off at E3, can be watched with runact.cfg (thus: "doom.exe +exec runact.cfg"). Please note: The loading takes quite a while!
- By pressing F2 all the nice light effects disappear, but the game runs smoother!
- With F12 you can get all the weapons and F10 is the God mode!
- Another hint for all using the highquality.cfg: If you set the value "image_anisotropy" from "8" to "1" you lose indeed anisotropic filtering but experience a performance increase of 60% instead!!
- You might already notice, that the editor is not working. I can help you with that: Download this file, create inside the "\Doom_III\base\" directory a folder named "scripts" and copy the "doom.qe4" into it. – done!
- Furthermore the RUN_DOOM.txt states that the map "fred/e3bathroom5" might not run everywhere. Should this be the case for you, I have a patch ready: Download this file and unzip it into the "\Doom_III\base\maps\fred\" directory by overwriting the old one. It runs now!
- The code for the door in the second level is 924!
- Already played via network? No? Then read through this instruction and you are already gaming two-player multiplayer mods! (Download of that particular map!)

He indeed does not mention ATI but "companies". Whether ATI is truly to blame is going to be revealed by the future cooperation with them.No, this was not leaked on purpose.
Yes, we are upset about it, and it will have some impact on how we deal with some companies in the future, but nothing drastic is going to change in terms of what support is going to be available.
Making any judgements from a snapshot intended for a non-interactive demo is ill advised. - The alpha runs with the mediumquality.cfg by default, the highquality.cfg is also included. Here is the corresponding lowquality.cfg!
- THE ULTIMATE ALPHA FIX V1.2:
This patch fixes among other things the following stuff:- All maps are accessable via the singleplayer menu and are loaded sequentially after each other
- No more sound issues during the intro
- More performance
- There was also a model viewer called "Deep Exploration" by Right Hemisphere before it was acquired by SAP in 2011. Download of the appropriate version 2.00.1211!
- Also the first fan map is already surfaced!
- All 471 console commands as well as all known info regarding the alpha in this compilation!

- Regarding older computer, having trouble to run the alpha, a fix was crafted.
