Das 12. Tomb Raider auf Basis der Unreal Engine 5 mit Codenamen Project Jawbreaker war Thema in einem PlayStation-Podcast namens Sacred Symbols. In Episode 213 wurde ein geleaktes Casting-Skript verlesen, in dem Schauspieler für die jeweilige Rolle vorstellig werden können. Dazu gehört auch ein Abstract zur Beschreibung von Lara Croft:
Die dann nachgesprochene Szene enthält Lara und zwei weitere Charaktere. In einem Grab treffen sie auf Wächter mit Laserstrahlen (!) und müssen per Fallschirm fliehen. Zum weiteren Umfang der Rolle Lara Croft wurden außerdem romantische Szenen mit einem anderen weiblichen Charakter, aber ohne Nackheit und simulierten Sex verlautbart.Lara Croft is now at the top of her game. Gone are the days of the young inexperienced woman dealing with matters of legacy and familial reckoning, Lara has let go of her childhood and fully embraced a life of adventure and purpose. Her legendary career has been lauded in print and tabloids, tall tales of adventure that have inspired a new generation of Tomb Raiders to seek their fortunes in the world. And with this new phase of her life, Lara fully accepted her place among the ruins. But as the years have passed, Lara has become lonely at the top. The beginning of this next chapter presents Lara with the quintessentially adult problem facing something too big to handle alone. On this new adventure, Lara will encounter a challenge she can only overcome with a team at her side. Collaboration is foreign to her. Shes always succeeded alone. So, in this situation, shes a fish out of water.
Sollte es dabei bleiben, darf man sich nach der Reboot-Trilogie auf eine lesbische oder zumindest bisexuelle Lara in ihren Mittdreißigern einstellen. Das dies kein Hirngespinst ist, zeigt die Reaktion von Entwickler Crystal Dynamics und Noch-Eigentümer Square Enix: Die Podcast-Plattform wurde per DMCA abgemahnt und so wurde per Streisand-Effekt die Sache erst richtig bekannt. Hmm sehr interessant, nicht wahr?
