Es gibt Leaks, die sind zu schön um wahr zu sein. Damals wie heute zählt Duke Nukem Forever zweifelsohne dazu. Seit gestern scheint die Möglichkeit eines alten Builds von 2001 ein greifbarer Nähe gekommen zu sein. Die Gruppe x0r_jmp hat gestern mehr als genug Material und damit Beweise veröffentlicht, tatsächlich im Besitz von DNF 2001 zu sein: Die Frage wird nur sein, ob tatsächlich eine Veröffentlichung erfolgen wird. Diese ist nämlich für Juni angekündigt! Bis dahin möchte man noch Fixes einbauen, damit die Sache möglichst rund läuft. Neben mit Spiel besitzt man angeblich sogar den kompletten Quellcode und Editor:
Almost every chapter is present in some form. A huge chunk is playable, a huge chunk is block-outs with no enemies. All of the E3 content is there. Not just the editor, we will be releasing the full source code too. All weapons are functional with the exception of the chainsaw and the freezer. The editor works. We also have the engine and UnrealScript source code and have written instructions for compiling it. Two builds, but only the content for one. It is Unreal Engine 1, like the final game. There is no complete game. It was never finished. The E3 2001 iteration but not the E3 2001 build. The shrink ray is in the game, it's the first weapon in slot 4. The theme is just the Megadeth version. It starts playing as soon as you boot the game. Bombshell is not visually present in the game at this point, there is a log file showing that her model was deleted. The human enemies are infected with a parasite, this is hinted at in the E3 2001 trailer. Watch for tentacles. The strippers can be seen and interacted with when you first enter the club. By the point in the game that was recorded, most of them are dead. The grey aliens have a fully animated model but no object, so they cannot be spawned (and they aren't in any maps). Yes. There is also pool, a DDR minigame, and others. All of our fixes are in a separate folder, the original files are untouched.

Diesmal schlägt der Mutterkonzern von THQ Nordic, Koch Media, Deep Silver, Saber Interactive, Gearbox Software, 3D Realms uvm. richtig zu: Die Embracer Group übernimmt die Studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal und damit einhergehend die Marken wie Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief und Legacy of Kain. Damit trennt sich Square Enix von sämtlichen westlichen Marken und Lara Croft zieht nach 13 Jahren quasi wieder zurück nach Europa. Das ganze lässt man sich $300 Mio. kosten, was angesichts von Tomb Raider alleine irgendwie recht wenig anmutet? Embracer betont bei der Übernahme abermals die Entwicklung des neuen Tomb Raiders und kündigt Investitionen in die anderen Marken an (lies: auch da kommen neue Spiele wie Deux Ex 5).

Remedy Entertainment wird die ersten beiden Max-Payne-Teile in Zusammenarbeit mit Rockstar Games neu auflegen:
Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The games development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.
Die Initiative ging von Remedy aus, aber Rockstar als Lizenzinhaber sitzt natürlich mit im Boot.

Das vor über einem Jahr angesprochene nächste Tomb Raider wird mit der Unreal Engine 5 umgesetzt werden. Die Entwicklung fängt damit quasi gerade erst an, so hat es Crystal Dynamics vor wenigen Stunden verkündet. Bisher kam die hausinterne Foundation Engine zum Einsatz, die nun wohl ausgemustert wird.

Der Clou: Es lassen sich nicht nur Jon St. John, sondern auch Corey Cruise aus Postal 3 und sogar Rick Hunter aus Postal 2 als Stimme für den Postal Dude auswählen! Der Untertitel von S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 heißt nicht mehr "Heart of Chernobyl" sondern "Heart of Chornobyl". Hintergrund ist die angewendete Romanisierung: Chernobyl ist quasi die russische Schreibweise, während Chornobyl die ukrainische Schreibweise der Stadt ist. Damit geht man bei GSC als ukrainischer Entwickler auch im kleinsten Detail auf maximale Distanz zum Aggressor Russland.

...ist ne Sache aus den Geschichtsbücher vor ca. 80 Jahren? Weit gefehlt, denn seit mehr als einer Woche führt Russland einen immer brutaleren Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine. Nicht nur Wohnhäuser und ganze Viertel werden bombardiert, sogar Atomkraftwerke kommen unter Beschuss. Wie unbegreifbar sich auf einmal alles ändert zeigt auch GSC Game World: Letzte Woche noch Motion Capture für S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 gemacht, geht es jetzt nur noch um das nackte Überleben: Wenig verwunderlich ist die Entwicklung erstmal gestoppt. Dabei wäre (kein) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 momentan meine geringste Sorge. Es ist derzeit überhaupt nicht absehbar, wie das für uns alle enden wird. Wichtig wäre erstmal der Ukraine an sich zu helfen, mehr Infos auf der "Homepage" des Landes unter https://ukraine.ua/.

Nach den eher mäßigen Remaster der ersten drei Crysis-Teile hat Crytek heute den vierten Teil angekündigt: Wirklich Material oder Details gibt es noch keine, da man sich sehr früh in der Entwicklung befindet:

Crysis aus 2007 war damals ein Hit mit enormen Anforderungen an die Hardware. Es folgte ein Spin-off namens Warhead und später Teil 2 und 3. Heftig: Für knapp $69 Mrd. verleibt sich Microsoft den kompletten Konzern mit allen Studios ein! Da wirkt selbst die Übernahme von ZeniMax wie Peanuts! Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft und sogar Call of Duty - alles gehört nun auch zum Windows- und Xbox-Konzern. Allerdings kauft Microsoft auch allerlei Probleme, zuletzt machte Activision Blizzard eher durch Sexismus als durch Spiele von sich reden. Wobei doch, durch Spiele auch, aber nur weil sie so unfassbar schlecht sind! Da könnte MS ja fast schon der Retter in der Not sein... Die ganze PM unter Weiterlesen.

Per E-Mail kam gerade eben die Info rein, dass S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 auf den 8. Dezember 2022 verschoben wurde:
These additional seven months of development are needed to fulfill our vision and achieve the desired state of the game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the biggest project in the history of GSC, and it requires thorough testing and polishing. We are convinced that development should take as long as necessary, especially in the case of such a project.

Von 2001 bis 2021 - heute sind die ZWANZIG JAHRE voll! Um diesen Meilenstein gebührend zu feiern, gibt es eine neue Sektion: Sammlerstücke! Dort wird zelebriert, was den Kern der Homepage schon lange ausmacht: Eine Zeitkapsel, ein Blick zurück, eine Reminiszenz! Den Anfang machen -passend zum Jubiläum- satte 20 Titel aus meiner Spielesammlung. Doch dabei bleibt es nicht, es kommen in den nächsten Wochen und Monaten immer wieder neue Einträge hinzu! Schaut öfters mal rein, es bleibt spannend!
Und jetzt Party on! Egal ob groß oder etwas kleiner oder alleine: Nostalgiebrille aufgesetzt und los geht's!

Kein Splinter Cell 7, aber ein Remake des ersten Teils von 2002: Ubisoft Toronto hat die Neuauflage unter Verwendung der Snowdrop-Engine heute bekannt gegeben.
Although we're still in the very earliest stages of development, what we're trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity. So, as we're building it from the ground up, we're going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.

Alan Wake 2 war nicht nur mal in Arbeit, sondern ist momentan äußerst sehr in Arbeit: Remedy hat zu den Game Awards das Sequel offiziell angekündigt! Im Gegensatz zum Erstling wird es diesmal in Richtung Survival-Horror gehen:
Alan Wake 2 also turns up the level of dread as our very first dive into the survival horror genre, so expect a chilling experience with familiar psychological horror elements.
Dies zeigt auch der Trailer, den ihr euch hier laden könnt. Gleichzeitig verkündet man keine weiteren Infos bis Sommer 2022.
Alan Wake war 2010 nach Max Payne 2 das nächste große Ding von Remedy. Nach dem Ableger American Nightmare in 2012 wurde es ruhig um die Marke. Jetzt dauert es nochmal zwei Jahre, dann gibt es nach satten 11 Jahren endlich die Fortsetzung.
