3D Realms: Gesammelte Aussagen von Joe Siegler #2Duke Nukem Forever
Posted by Chrissyx – 09.05.2009 – 21:51 Uhr – Kategorie: Duke Nukem Forever

6) Man soll George fragen, was George derzeit macht.

1)

The original DNF rights were with our retail company way back when called FormGen. FormGen was bought out (or merged, I really don't recall now) by GT Interactive so they inherited the rights to publish. GT Interactive was bought out by Infogrames (later known as Atari). Infrogrames didn't want the game (saying they felt it didn't fit in their line of games), so they sold the rights to Gathering of Developers. When Gathering was swallowed up by Take 2, those rights moved to Take 2. It's quite a twisted road, but it's still technically the same contract all these years later.

2)

Uh, that will NOT be happening. At least not that I know of.

3)

So what's the problem? The team that was here really f'in believed in the product. At the meeting we were told about this, almost to a man the feeling was not about where they were going to work, it's not being able to finish. The team really BLOODY WELL CARED - THAT is why you say things like that. It's not a WTF moment, dude.

4)

What's do know? The studio closed, the game is not being made? None of this is new here.

5)

The company that I still work for until this coming Friday (which is MY last day) is Apogee Software, Ltd. Apogee Software Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Action Entertainment, Inc. AEI was something that was come up with years ago to legally protect us. Should someone sue the company, they'd be suing AEI, not ASL, and we wouldn't lose our pants, so to speak. Anyway, Apogee Software, Ltd. has two DBA's. Those DBA's are 3D Realms & Pinball Wizards. As time went along in the mid 90's, 3D games became more popular, and we adopted the name of 3D Realms as our company, BUT.. it is still legally a DBA - the name of the company always has been, and always will be Apogee Software, Ltd. After this Friday, the only employees left of Apogee Software, Ltd will be Scott & George (and the office manager for a little longer after that). At some point, the physical offices will close, and at that point, ASL will still exist on paper, so royalties, and intellectual properties will still be kept. What Scott & George choose to do with "Apogee" (as I've always called it, even through the 3DR days) is up to them. Everything post closure is speculation on my part, although the legal side would be correct.

Now, to confuse the party even more is the "New Apogee". That is another company that approached us a couple of years ago about buying the rights to the old Apogee name and whatnot. That company is "Apogee Software, LLC". LLC is NOT the same as us, they merely licensed the name and some IP rights (of which I'm still under NDA with them, so I can't talk about specifics) of some of our older games. They are not affected by 3DR closing, because they're a separate company. Their "Duke Nukem Trilogy" is still planned on coming out this fall I believe.

6)

I can't answer that. You'd have to ask George what George is doing. Why everyone thinks I know all these answers is amusing. I mean I know why really - I'm the only one talking. But put it in perspective. I'm an employee. I don't know what the bosses are planning. Especially now.

The team is starting to disperse, we have other companies coming to our studio this coming week to do job fairs and whatnot. I know of one guy who hs already gotten a job at another company. But in the interest of fairness, I'm not giving any info out there (not that it really is the public's business anyway).

7)

SIGH. Again...

I CANNOT CONFIRM ANYTHING LIKE THAT. INFORMATION LIKE THAT HAS TO COME FROM SCOTT & GEORGE, BECAUSE AFTER THIS FRIDAY I WON'T WORK HERE ANYMORE, AND WILL BE UNABLE TO SPEAK FROM ANY SORT OF KNOWLEDGE CAPACITY! ALL I SAID IS THAT IT IS NOT BEING WORKED ON NOW - NOTHING ELSE IS GOING ON - OUR STUDIO HAS CLOSED - May 8th was the last day of work for the developers!

BrickwallBrickwallBrickwallBrickwallBrickwall

No. As I've said, the developers last day was May 8th. Three of us (one of which is me) are paid through this coming friday. After that, it's just Scott, George, & the office manager Steve. That's IT.

8)

You've been here for awhile. You should know this about me.. I have always taken my job personally. Probably too personally for my own good, but these forums *WERE* me. It will be really weird for me to have them continue to exist when I walk out the door and no longer am an admin here. That will be really bloody weird. I'll probably have to walk away and never come back, because it will drive me apeshit to see them in whatever state they'll be in, since I expect they won't be run the same way when I stop having control.

You should understand me by now Iwant.. you should know that I get too involved, and get fried, so yeah. It is about me, because these forums are me. That make sense?

9)

That's only in Joe's HappyLand™. We're DEFINITELY not there now.

10)

No. Take 2 has the rights to publish DNF. *NOT* the IP rights to "Duke Nukem". Those rights remain with Scott & George. Oh sure, we can do a totally new Duke Nukem game, but we have no money. That's why the devs were let go.

Separate comment: I'm fairly sure T2 can't publish anything under the name DNF without us, since we have the IP rights. But I'm not a lawyer.

11)

Ok I have been there for 15 years. Let me say something.

- I have no job as of this friday
- All the Devs are done as of last friday
- My job this week "Help shut down the Studio"
- I am scared. It is normal.
- If this was a hoax I hope it would not be pulled on the Devs.
- For all you that think that it is a hoax, My Girlfriend hopes it is one. But she is smart enough to know it is not.
- My Girlfriend has seen me play DNF (HAH)
- I have played DNF (HAH HAH)

The last one was more for me than any of you. Smile
