Sole Survivor was way ahead of the times: Up to 50 players could be scrimmaged back then –1997– on one map at once. Too ahead, because the game flopped and only years later the first MMORPGs respectively MOBAs would be successful with such a concept. The servers were shut down ultimately on January 1, 2002.
It was only released on the US market and therefore not distributed in Germany.
Technically SS is based on the engine from TD and featured all units from the game incl. the add-on. Even the dinos from the secret Jurassic Park levels were playable.
SS had no monthly fees, compared to todays habits, and the server connection was top-notch thanks to WOL.
It featured three game modes:
Free for all
Capture the flag
Football
The EVA voice was selectable.
It is the only game not included in the compilations "The First Decade" or "The Ultimate Collection". Thanks EA – for nothing at all.
