Story:

Dr. Proton has taken over Area 51 and nuked Las Vegas. He uses the spacecraft at Area 51 to contact aliens around the galaxy and recruit them for his army. Dr. Proton has also reanimated the Area 51 guards to do his bidding, and given them bionic enhancements. With this army, Dr. Proton plans to take over the world and kill Duke.

Trivia:

• Insane: Announced 1997 and 14 years in development! No other game achieved hat before and despite continuously winning the Vaporware Awards the hype remains unbroken.
• The official release date is no longer "When it's done" but June 10 & 14, 2011!
• The name Forever emerged originally from 4 and Eva. Latter was the protagonist's name of a planned side-scroller which was repurposed to a fourth Duke Nukem game after the success of Duke Nukem 3D:

  Who thought of the name, Duke Nukem Forever, and why use this name for your game?
  
  It was originally a bit of a pun. The main protagonist in our game was a female Russian soldier called Eva – her last name was a little too un-PC for today's generation (it was a different time). So when we as a group were coming up with a name, we thought it would be funny if Duke fell for Eva and her massive assets, and given this was the 4th installation of Duke, the name “Duke Nukem 4 Eva” was born. Over time the 4Eva eventually transformed to Forever.

• Started with the engine of Quake 2 eventually a very heavily modified Unreal Engine 2 is used. That does not mean it has to look bad despite its age and thanks to the modifications, as shown by the newest screenshots or also the teaser of 2007.

  3.31 - What level is DNF's technology at right now?
  To answer this question, we have a quote from George Broussard: "We're not UT level tech. We're using some of the ut2k3 stuff. Static Meshes are nice. We've written a tremendous amount of our on rendering code over the last year. I don't really think we will even be recognized as an Unreal engine game at this point."
